   Exploring Leadership in the Classrooms

It's a Win-Win situation for everyone when teachers work together with a plan for success.

     Learning today        Leading tomorrow!

Habit 1: Be Proactive is about taking responsibility for your life. Your life doesn't just "happen." Whether you know it or not, it is carefully designed by you. The choices, after all, are yours. You choose happiness. You choose sadness. You choose decisiveness. You choose ambivalence. You choose success. You choose failure. You choose courage. You choose fear. Just remember that every moment, every situation, provides a new choice. And in doing so, it gives you a perfect opportunity to do things differently to produce more positive results.

Mrs. Tomlinson is Beginning With the End in Mind by providing her students with an advanced organizer that shows them visually how things are connected.

These children have made a pledge to be proactive in their choices this year.

Outside walls of the school help students remember Habit 1-making the choice to be kind to all.

The Random Acts of Kindness exterior display is made up of quotes from famous people on kindness. "No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted." Aesop

Children collect thank you notes from the teachers for making good choices. Teachers lead their students through self-reflection each day.

Habit 2: Be Begin With The End in Mind~  Have a Plan!  Covey calls this the habit of personal leadership - leading yourself that is, towards what you consider your personal goals. By developing the habit of concentrating on important activities you are building a plan to avoid distractions and will become more productive and successful.

Signs for setting goals can be found both inside and out side the classrooms. These signs guide the children in how to be successful. Both students and their teachers learn to recognize and point out positive leadership qualities being used.

Everyone makes a plan~ Mission Statement Students get practice in understanding how and when to use Proactive Language. These students have posted their individual goals to there "7 Habits Tree".
Parents can expect to experience Student Led Conferences this year. Student Led Conferences help to foster student ownership of their learning, accountability, and goal setting. Having Schedules posted in each classroom helps everyone to stay on task and to "Begin With the End in Mind". Students get practice in understanding what making good choices look like.
The mirror in this classroom is a perfect example of helping the children realize that we can all be leaders. Using leadership language daily helps the children internalize the concepts. This classes goal setting poster was created by the teacher and students.
Leadership is about making good choices. These children are having to decide between hundreds of good books provided by RIF.

While deciding between so many books was hard, these students are obviously happy with the choices they made.

For teachers and students alike, reviewing our goals and setting new ones for the rest of the year was January's Leadership Project.

Mrs. Gadsden, RIF coordinator,  helps the children to make a plan  of action while emphasizes the importance of reading.

These students are following habit 4, Seek First to Understand Then to be Understood.

Community Leadership- This Florida Fish, Game, and Wildlife Officer talks to the children about how to be leaders when out in the  environment.

Leadership in the community- Helping collect pet supplies for the Humane Society was the leadership project for March and April.

These 1st grade students are reading the book, Ready Freddy! Yikes Bikes! They learn how Freddy and his friends raised money for their Humane Society.

Random Act of Kindness was February's Leadership Project.

A reminder of how being kind can create a Win-Win situation for all. Quotes from Famous people on Kindness were displayed.
