At Lake Country we try to follow the understanding that we are all born with a natural curiosity about our world. Science is an extension of this curiosity. When we read about a new discovery, watch a bird fly, or think about how something works, we are doing science. When we pursue knowledge we are doing science. As enjoyable as it is to marvel at the wonders of our world, science is also useful.
LCE is in active agreement with the statement of shared principles from the U.S. Department of Education and the National Science Foundation, who together endorse mathematics and science curricula that "promote active learning, inquiry, problem solving, cooperative learning, and other instructional methods that motivate students. More specifically, students need to have many and varied opportunities for collecting, sorting and cataloging; observing, note taking and sketching; interviewing, polling, and surveying".
