We would like to thank the citizens of Highlands County, the committee members and volunteers for their commitment to improve our schools and our community. Your efforts assured a 'Yes' vote for the half cent sales tax referendum. A definite win for all stakeholders.
With our sincere gratitude,
School Board of HIghlands County
Due to decreased funds, the Highlands County School Board is asking voters to consider a half cent sales in order to be used for capital expenditures and not on operational needs (salaries, supplies, monthly operational expenses, etc.). The School Board has prepared an extensive plan that includes capital improvements such as safety and security projects, new buses, technology upgrades, renovations, repairs and general upgrades to the physical plant of each school, additional classrooms at some schools and the possibility of school expansion in the future.
Please take the time to educate yourself on this important initiative and review the various links on this page that will better inform you on the referendum that will be on the Aug. 30, 2016 primary election ballot as Referendum #5. The cost to you could be as little as $1 per week.
