Collection of Social Security Numbers

To All Employees:

Pursuant to Florida Statute 119.07, The School Board of Highlands County (SBHC) requires the collection of social security numbers from all employees for the purpose of business services and required state and governmental reporting. The SBHC is committed to protecting the privacy of students and employees as well as other individuals associated with the District. The following agencies require social security numbers from the SBHC when deemed necessary to conduct business to serve its employees:

  • Bencor
  • Cigna
  • Combined Insurance Services (CIS)
  • Employer Mutual Inc. (Worker's Compensation)
  • The Equitable Financial Companies (AXA)
  • eSchool Solutions (SmartFind Express)
  • EyeMedVision Care
  • Jefferson Pilot Financial
  • LabCorp / FirstLab
  • Madison National Life
  • MidFlorida Credit Union
  • Reliastar Northern Life Insurance Company (ING)
  • SchoolStream Electronic Forms
  • Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company
  • Other purposes specifically required or authorized by local, state or Federal law

Additionally, the SBHC maintains the use of social security numbers for the verification of employee work experience, terminal pay beneficiary designation, employee public record exemption and similar matters. The District is working to minimize the use of social security numbers within its business processes. The social security number will not be disclosed to individuals or agencies outside the District except as allowed by law or with permission from the individual.
