New Hire Information

Congratulations on your new employment with the School Board of Highlands County.

 

Employment Process

When you are notified by the Principal or Department Head that you have been selected for a position its time for you to begin the new employee process. Please follow the steps listed below.

  1. Call Human Resources, Recruitment and Professional Development (HRRPD), 863-471-5732 to schedule an appointment for pre-screening. During this appointment, you will be required to complete the drug screening paperwork, submit to a drug test and be fingerprinted.
YOU MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WITH YOU:

 

SOCIAL SECURITY CARD --  Must be signed. If you have no card, bring a computer printout from the Social Security Office stating that you have applied for a Social Security card. You will be processed in the name that appears on your card.

 

PHOTO IDENTIFICATION (ID) -- Bring your driver's license. If you do not have a license, bring some other type of photo I.D.

 

Fingerprinting:

Employee Fingerprinting & Background Screening - Effective July 15, 2013, all new hires will be required to complete fingerprinting and background screening at an off-site location. Employees will be provided registration instructions when scheduling the required new hire processing appointment. All fingerprinting and background screening fees are the responsibility of the employee.


Employee ID Badge - Effective July 15, 2013, all new hires will be required to photograph for a SBHC indentification badge at an off-site location. Employees will be provided registration instructions when scheduling the required new hire processing appointment. Employee ID fees will be borne by SBHC. Badge replacement fees will be the responsibility of the employee. SBHC identificaiton badges must be worn at all times, at all locations.

  • FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE
    1. Upon clearance of drug screening and criminal background check you will be scheduled for an orientation and benefits meeting. Employment paperwork such as the W-4, I-9, health insurance, retirement enrollment, etc. will be completed at this time. Please allow at least 3 hours for completing this paperwork. You must bring BENEFICIARY INFORMATION -- Bring the legal name(s), address(es), Social Security number(s) and birth date(s) of those you intend to make your insurance beneficiary(ies).
    **Please note that if you are hired during the summer hiring season you will process during a "mass processing". Please plan on spending the entire day with us.**
    1. Review the benefits available through our District. On the day of processing you will be completing the benefit enrollment paperwork and you will have to decide if you plan on purchasing our health insurance, dental and life insurance for your dependents. Also, we will need to know who you want to designate as beneficiaries for your health, retirement and sick leave.
