The Florida Legislature has determined that beginning with students entering ninth grade in the 2011-2012 school year, at least one course must be completed through online learning as a graduation requirement. After evaluating the district data, it was discovered that approximately forty Highlands County students required to do so actually participated in online classes. In an effort to help all students fulfill this graduation requirement, we now offer an online class for ninth graders at all three Highlands County high schools. Ninth grade students enrolled in this pull-out course are provided 90 minutes a week during the school day to work on their online class.

The goal of the Curriculum Department is to provide students with more technology instruction, a positive introduction to online learning and the opportunity to fulfill the graduation requirement. Through this new program, we will help over 800 Highlands County students achieve that goal this school year alone.
